What Makes 1974 Different From Traditional School Merch
Most school merch feels like it was designed by someone who’s never stepped foot on campus. Oversized block letters, random clipart, and the same hoodie design since 2009? Yeah, we weren’t feeling it either.
That’s one of the main reasons we started 1974. We knew school spirit could look way better. So we set out to create something different that actually matches your vibe and your pride. Here's how:
1. Style Comes First
We're not just printing logos on tees and calling it a day. Every piece we drop is designed with actual intention and streetwear influence. We wanted gear that you could wear to class, to a game, or even out on the weekend and still feel like yourself. It’s school spirit without sacrificing your style.
2. Deeper Meaning, Not Just a Mascot
Yeah, our school’s mascot is a tiger—and we love that. But we didn’t just throw it on a shirt and move on. We tied the brand name, 1974, to something personal: the year my mom was born and the Year of the Tiger. That gave us a deeper reason to build around the tiger not just as a symbol of school pride, but of strength, heritage, and energy. That connection? You can feel it in our designs.
3. We’re Students Too
We’re not a big company guessing what students want. We are the students. We’re walking the same halls, hitting the same dining spots, dealing with the same all-nighters. So everything we make is for people like us who want to represent their school without looking like they just grabbed a random shirt from orientation.
4. It’s About the Community, Not Just the Clothes
We’re building more than a brand, we’re building a movement. When you wear 1974, you’re part of a crew that values creativity, connection, and campus pride that actually looks cool. From future pop-ups to collabs and limited drops, we’re all about keeping things fresh and inclusive.
5. Every Drop Is Designed With Intention
We're not pumping out endless merch just to make sales. We focus on drops that tell a story, stand for something, and feel unique. Limited pieces, meaningful design, and details that reflect the campus vibe and that’s our approach.
